Which Media Player ? - What's the condition of your disk drive.
It sounds suspiciously like the drive has encountered I/O errors &
the operating mode has dropped back to PIO. In effect it makes
the drive run like Molasses. This would account for degradation
in playback quality - the drive can't keep up with the player.
You can check this with Device Manager, IDE controllers likely
Primary, Advanced (TAB).
If this is the issue, then you need to return to the shop that did the
work and inform them you still have problems.

Yesterday the sound on my computer was perfect. I've just got it back from
repair for other problems and everything was working fine. I uploaded
several
CDs onto my computer and they were playing without problems. Today I
returned
to uploading CDs and the sound was jumpy (kind of like a scratched
record). I
assumed it was the CDs that I was using and tried playing something I
uploaded yesterday, but that was jumping as well. I restarted my computer
and
the load-up sound was doing the same thing, and all the sounds on my
computer
(pop-up sounds etc.) have the same problem. I'm using the default sounds
so I
know it's not a problem with the sounds themselves, but with my computer.
I have a laptop with a realtek high definition audio card. I've tried all
the steps on the Windows troubleshooter and nothing has helped. Does
anyone
have any suggestions or ideas for me? I use my computer primarily for
playing
music and films so this is a huge problem for me.
