Unable to Add/Change programs via Add or Remove Programs

Hello,
I wonder if anybody can assist me. In the last two weeks my laptop (Windows
XP SP2) has prevented me from removing any programs via the Add / Remove
Programs Control Panel icon. When I select an item the options to Change or
Remove are not there (displayed for newly installed items only). When I
goto
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<Program
Name> Only newly installed programs are listed.
Does anybody know a single way to rebuild the Add or Remove program list to
re-enable the remove option?
