recently also upgraded to IE7. the configuration is pentium celeron d
processor 2.3 ghz, 256 ram.. wen the computer is idle, it shuts down
soon.. wen v open any application the comp shuts down! its a total
crash. not a proper shutdown. have no clue why this is happening

Let me ask if I understand you right. You have 256 Megs of RAM? I am not
sure if that is you problem but I would use at least 1 Gig.

How long have you had this problem and what were some on the last changes
you made if you can recall.

While 256MB is on the low side for XP, increasing the amount of RAM will not
help the OP with his problem now. To the OP: I would start with some
hardware troubleshooting:

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts with
known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA). Have all
your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.
