Re: Start Windows Defender Service

Mark

Go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Locate Windows Defender, select Properties and ensure that the Start-Up Type is Automatic. Right click on Windows and select Properties to change to Automatic. once changed click on Apply and OK, exit and Restart your computer. Check taking the same route to confirm Windows Defender has started.

In Tools in Windows Defender you should also check that in Tools you have enabled Real Time Protection.

If you have the Beta version installed you now need to uninstall usung Add / Remove Programs. You can then download and install the non-beta version. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

After having my computer with Windows XP for several years, today I
just received the following error message when starting up my
computer:

"Windows Defender

Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows
Defender Service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer
or search Help and Support on how to start a service manually."

I have been unable to find how to start a service manually on the
computer and web page help and support areas, so wanted to see if I
could get help through this discussion group.

Thank you,
