After having my computer with Windows XP for several years, today I just
received the following error message when starting up my computer:

"Windows Defender

Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows
Defender Service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or
search Help and Support on how to start a service manually."

I have been unable to find how to start a service manually on the computer
and web page help and support areas, so wanted to see if I could get help
through this discussion group.

Thank you,

Old beta versions of Defender expire today. Make sure you have the latest version.
