Re: Windows XP Upgrade

I am thinking of buying Windows XP Professional Upgrade version and I
have a question or two.

I have windows XP Home on my Compaq Laptop (which came with the

have the Windows XP Home CD that came with the Computer. Should I go
with the OEM version, Upgrade, or Full version?

You should buy the Upgrade version. The Full version costs substantially
more, and since you qualify to use the Upgrade (and it contains exactly the
same software) it's a much better buy. The Full version should not even be
considered.

I am trying to save
money while upgrading Versions. I do know that the OEM disk will be
bound to the first computer it is installed to and upgrade does need
the Previous owned Windows Disk.

No, an upgrade does not require the previous CD. It's required *only* if you
do a clean installation with the ownership, as proof of ownership.

You should do an upgrade installation; the upgrade from Home to
Professional is the easiest and most-likely successful of all possible
upgrades, since so little has to be changed.

Besides the OEM version getting tied to the first computer it's installed
on, it also can *not* do an upgrade, just a clean installation.

Moreover the Upgrade version usually cost only slightly more than an OEM
version, and is well worth the slight added expense, since it comes withoput
those restrictions

Currently Best Buy is having $20 -
$30 Savings on Windows XP Pro and home, so the quicker the decision
the better.

Over and above everything I say abouve, why do you want XP Professional? Are
you aware that XP Home and Professional are identical except that
Professional includes a few features (mostly related to security and
networking) missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never
use these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.

Also note another point, not included in any of the above: Professional
allows ten concurrent network connections, and Home only five.
