Re: Cannot Access Newsgroups

I tried resetting the Internet Advanved Options. I assume it is
some setting but I can't guess what. I am signed in. I can look at
the various groups and read the entries.

Help would be appreciated.

Stop using the clunky/unreliable/crap web interface to access these
newsgroups and get a proper newsreader.

You'll be much happier for it.

Also - when you want to search for archived posts - use Google
Groups instead of the clunky/unreliable/crap web interface that
you are now using.

Thanx for all the help. The Google link is especially great.
Shenan, I can see I really upset you because I wasn't aware of
these other methods. You must realize that half the world is below
average in intelligence. That is why we have to ask you guys for
help. We know you are smarter than we are. It isn't to upset you.

Thanks again

You have made the mistake of reading something into typed text that is not
there.
I do not beliebve I am more intelligent than you. I made no assumptions
about you or your intelligence.
Let me break down my response.

X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

The above was me merely looking at your post through my newsreader (Outlook
Express in this case) and seeing what it reported for the newsrader you were
using. What it told me is that you were not using one - you were using the
web page to view and post from.

This has nothing to do with intelligence - but using the right tools and
experience.

Stop using the clunky/unreliable/crap web interface to access these
newsgroups and get a proper newsreader.

You'll be much happier for it.

The above is not a demand/accusation. The above is a suggestion - albeit a
direct one. I have a strong opinion about the quality of the web interface
that has been put up to access these newsgroups. It is a low opinion - as
the interface leaves so much to be desired over using somehting that come
standard with modern Windows Operating systems and that there are many (even
better) free alternatives for. So I state it is a direct and undeniable
way - the web interface is a horrible thing and MY OPINION (I am stating
it - therefore it is my opinion) is thatyou would be etter off not using the
web interface any longer.

Nothing to do with intelligence there - just sharing more experience and
opinions with you.

Also - when you want to search for archived posts - use Google
Groups instead of the clunky/unreliable/crap web interface that
you are now using.

http://groups.google.com/

By default - a post on these (and many other) newsgroups are archived on
Google Groups. Google, for all intents and purposes, is the top search
engine out there today. Who better to suggest than Google to search for old
answers to problems? Computers are in use all over the world all day, every
day. The chances of someone having a problem that is new with an operating
system as old as Windows XP is slim (not none - just slim) - so the smart
and easiest thing to do before posting a question is to search and Google
being the top search engine of the time - it would be wise to use it to do
said search. The added bonus is that Google has setup a method for
archiving almost ALL old posts and a way to search ALL of those archived
posts and responses! That's why I suggested using Google Groups for your
search.

Again - nothing to do with intelligence there either - just sharing more
expeiences and tools with you and the others who will read this in the
future.

As for my signature - it is always there. You can use Google Groups and
search and see that for about two years now - I have used the exact same
signature. Why? Because the link has some decent knowledge in my opinion.
I have NOTHING to do with it otherwise. I did not write it, I do not host
it... I just stumbled upon it and though that for an inexperienced newsgroup
user to read through that - they would learn a lot. Experience and tools
again. Nothing degrading, demeaning or belittling.

I was never upset (at the post/poster) - I was merely sharing my thoughts
and experiences and the tools I found useful throughout my years using these
resources. I am unsure why you would assume I was upset or thought I was
more intelligent than you were - as I never stated that or even implied it.
I gave my opinion and I gave it strongly. I shared my experiences and the
tools of what i do freely and without holding back. Nothing more, nothing
less.
