Re: Need help with backup?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I would abandon the backup situation. Backup files are compressed, and
usually must be restored using the original program. Simply copy the files
from the old hard drive to the new. In different computers? 1) Connect with
a crossover cable. 2) Install the old disk in the new computer as a second
hard drive, copy the files to your new drive and then reformat the old.

The Backup program that was used is a part of Windows 98 OS, it is also
used
by ME OS, and XP OS cannot read the file extension-ciq. that it was saved
in,
to open the backup file.
I want to moves the contents of the HD that has all my files and data to
the
new HD, and reformat the old HD.

Does anyone know if I can backup a ME drive with the XP program, or
is
there a program that will let me transfer the contents of the ME drive
to the XP drive so I can reformat the ME and not loose my data?

Whoa. That was confusing. First of all, XP can read files on the FAT32
file system, which is what WinME is formatted in. However, you will
need to have the program that created those files installed in XP or
another program that can read them. Perhaps that's what you really
meant.

This article by Kim Komando, "Make old software work on a new Windows XP
machine" on the Microsoft website describes the options you have:

I'm not sure what your last sentence has to do with anything, so if your
question wasn't answered completely please post back with a better
description of what you did and what you want to do. Remember that we
can't see your computer from here so you need to be clear, concise, and
descriptive.
