Hi guys. I am having a problem to run Windows Media Player to see new
downloaded videos.
I receive the following error when trying to open a .avi file: "Windows
Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience"
When I click on "see more" it shows that I have a signature problem with a
ModName: xvid.dll file.
I updated my Service Pack 2 and also the last version of the Windows Media
Player. But the problem stays the same.
I also try to download the xvid.dll file from the net and save it in
C:\WINDOWS\System folder, but it was worthless. I still can't see the
videos...
There is a newsgroup for media player. Peruse the posts there for anything similar before posting your question. If you need to post make sure you provide more information and history on this problem. What is the version of Media Player, has it ever worked, if so what changed between the time it did and now? What changes did you make to the system in the period? Will it play other formats?
