Bootvis is only really for software/device driver developers. MS never
intended it for general home user use.

I was doing some housecleaning and came across it. Recalling that it helped
me out once with a registry optimization, I ran it, mostly for grins.
Shouldn't have, but I did, and since I experienced some symptoms I've seen
here before without answers, I thought I'd point it out and ask the above
question:
When I ran it:
-- REboot happened, as expected.
-- Blue Screen reporting regmon.log occurred;
-- Rebooted again, same screen.
-- Booted to Safe Mode; Blue Screen again, this time indicating REGSYS.SYS.
Can't get to Safe Boot.
-- Another Safe Mode reboot, same message, no Safe Boot.
-- Used Last Good Configuation and successfully booted into "normal" mode.
And, bootvis ran, creating a log and optimizing the registry.
-- Since then, all working OK, but ... it did concern me that I kept
getting the blue screen, even in Safe Mode.
-- I won't run bootvis.exe again real soon <g>!
Interestingly enough, when I went to the MS site, I notice now they say they
don't provide the tool any longer. It's still available from other places,
but ... there must be a reason they aren't carrying it any longer; and I may
have found it <g>.

Another, probably not connected "funny" has occurred, but I haven't fiddled
with it yet; it might be a shortcut corrupted.
Out of 5 drive letters, C and D are on the first physial drive.
If I use the shortcut for drive D, set to open the window with D:
unrolled, it stops without unrolling the folders in it, AND there is no "+"
sign indicating that it has any folders in it, although they clearly display
in the right hand pane.
As soon as I click any folder in the right pane, then the "+" sign for
the D drive shows up in the left pane, and then it rolls down the folder
list as it should have done the first time.
If I use any other drive to open Explorer via shortcut, they all work
correctly, and roll down the proper folders, as expected, INCLUDING the D
drive regains its "+" sign.
Apparently any activity within Explorer straightens out the D drive
folder rolldown. This leads me to believe there is something corrupt in the
D shortcut, but ... just in case it means anything to anyone, I thought I'd
mention it.
The drive is "old", so it could be experiencing problems, but all tests
show it to be healthy. It really doesn't seem like the drive itself would
be any reason for the events I've described. Agree?
