What do you want to say by this?
Do you think that this might be of help???
I can only repeat that there is no problem on two of my three
machines (those in my lab not counted <!>).
And there was no problem until recently.
And I had cleaned everything possible to no avail.
I'm pretty sure that it is something else.
But what?
Rainald I don't know, sorry. Good luck to you.
It seems that the problem is mainly solved.
And the guilty part for that is YOU <gbg>
Out of pure luck I stumbled over the thread
"Autoplay does not work" by Bob Fay, message-ID
<O2Q1NdYHHHA.1008@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
where you had written:
" [Courtesy the late MVP Alex Nichol]
Some MSoft people have written an unofficial program to fix problems
with Autoplay. As such it is not on a Microsoft site, but it can be found
at http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/autofix.exe "
As for quite some time I had suspected a problem with Autoplay (as
explained, the icon for the drive in "My Computer" did not change and
not reflect the type of medium) I downloaded the utility and let it
run. It made a few corrections. And presto: Things seem back to
normal.
Only oddity remaining - and in so far different from the situation on
my notebook and my TabletPC -:
When Autoplay fires on inserting a blank (re-)writable disc the dialog
for selecting the wanted action is empty. It does neither show the
option to "open the folder for recordable CD" nor to use Roxio.
This is corresponding to the fact that in the drive's properties-dialog under "Autoplay" I can not make any selection.
Do you have any idea on where to look in the registry for setting the
Autoplay options?
I could then have a look in the proper section on my other computers
and perhaps take over the settings there (the drives in questions are
used on all three machines).
Thanks a million for your (in so far unknowingly given <gbg>)
solution!!
Regards from Germany
Rainald
P.S. As to your theory on co-existence:
It's neither Roxio nor Nero which caused the problems.
I'd rather suspect WMP 11 which had recently installed and which shows
some oddities (complaining about old invalid drivers), but that's a
different subject for a another NG
Lol..guilty as charged. What we don't know is what hosed things in the first place. Btw it wasn't my theory that either of those caused the problem, just that they were a possibility, and I don't think that's been ruled out. There is insufficient data to say what caused it.
