Sorry about versions. It is Windows XP, but Office 2002.

When I follow the instructions you gave, I don't get the 'My Places' pick.
It is 'grayed out.' This is same place as where we were on 12/8/06. I
will study the KB826214 some more. It looks like there is information
there that might work, but I have been getting some other important work
done.

Jerry, you said that you had Office 2003.

have control of the same type dialog when in Office 2003.

Microsoft Office versions:
Microsoft Office 2007 = I do not know or care.
Microsoft Office 2003 = 11
Microsoft Office XP (2002) = 10
Microsoft Office 2000 = 9
Microsoft Office 97/98 =

Open any Office program click on Help and then About {product name].

No matter. Try this, it works with 2002 which is what I have.

To add My Computer to the My Places bar, follow these steps:
1. In any Office program, hit Ctrl + O, to open the Open dialog.
2. Click the V on the Look in box and then click on Desktop at the top.
3. Click on MY Computer in the contents pane.
3. Click Tools and then click Add to My Places.

We are getting close. I don't have 'Office 11,' but I have 'Office 10.'
I have 'StandardPlaces' with subs of 'Desktop,' 'Favorites,' 'My
Documents,' 'Publishing,' and 'Recent.' I also have 'User Defined
Places' at the same level as 'StandardPlaces.' I think now I need to
know what key/values to add to point to 'My Computer' and where to add
them. I will also take a look at KB 826214.

Value Name: Show
Data Type: DWORD
Data Options: Zero to hide a Standard place.

Apparently a value data of 1 for Show it may not do anything. The Show
value name has to be deleted instead. Here's how.

Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to >>>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\
Common\Open Find\Places\StandardPlaces\MyComputer

Look for a Show value name in the right hand pane.
Right click on Show, select Delete and click Yes to the prompt.

I have Office 2002 and I have edited my registry so that I do not see
History, Favorites or My Network Places.

I have Desktop, Computer Documents (my own folder), Word Templates (my
own folder) and My Documents on my Office Places bar.
