Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

This morning I tried booting my computer only to find it got stuck before the BIOS memory test. I eventualy managed to boot the PC by removing the CMOS battery and reseting the CMOS.

However once I got the PC in to windows XP (Professional btw) all the USB devices on the system (of which there are 5) were registering as "Unknown Device", I tried uninstaling them all and re-instaling them and they are still "Unknown Device".

I tried removing them (physically) from the system and then uninstalling them and for some reason they are still found as new hardware when the system boots up and registered as "Unknown Device".

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

Go into the BIOS and change the USB settings to or from legacy; this was probably was reset when the battery died.
