Re: Windows shuts down or restarts on it's own

Skip HP first tier Technical Support. Search on HP's site for the
corporate headquarters and call and ask to speak to the VP for
Customer Service. Explain your situation calmly, but FIRMLY &
state exactly all the steps you've undertaken to get a working PC.
Technical support at this point is useless.

If as Malke suggests it's a thermal problem download a monitor
program such as SpeedFan and record the temps shown to help
with your discussions with HP management to prove you've got
a defective product.

If they (HP) offer a replacement - BE SURE that you state you
do not want or will accept a factory re-furbished unit.

I am assuming that this is caused by some sort of critical error, but
I have no idea how to fix the problem. I have tried to disable the
auto restart on critical errors function with no luck. My computer
started shutting down for no apparent reason about a year ago. At
first this was happening when I would try to print a file from Word.
I installed a fix from HP that I thought would fix the problem. I can
be in the middle of reading an e-mail, chatting on im, or playing a
video game and with out warning the computer will just turn off. I
have an HP Pavillion zd7000 that is sitting in a docking station.

I run Windows defender, RegistryFix, Spybot, Ad-ware, and Symantec
Antivirus daily. I use AIM, YAHOO messenger, Myspace messenger,
FireFox and iTunes as well.

I don't know what is wrong with the computer. I've taken it in for
repairs several times but I'm still having the problem. I'm at my
wits end; I am good at fixing computer problems but this one has me
stumped. If you can help me please contact me! TY

A year! That's a long time to have a problem. You have a laptop, right?
Those HP laptops run really hot and it sounds like your machine is
overheating. I would say you have a hardware problem. I don't know what
"taken it in for repairs" entailed, but if the machine is under
warranty contact HP for repair/replacement.
