I did the sfc-scannow (took around an hour) and it now is running much better. No longer get the error message! And can print again! Thanks!

I am actually doing this fix on my father-in-law's computer and still have some other problems though:

I restarted the computer after runnning the sfc. Before it would shut down, and this happens often, a pop up box appears telling/asking to "End Now" "ccApp" and then "hpqimzone". Not sure if that's anything to be concerned about or not.

CCapp is part of your a/v software. HPqimzone is related to HP digital imaging. I wouldn't worry about either being a little slow with closing; just wait on them.

Then, on restart, a Java window pops up that is black and looks like an old DOS app box, and then it closes on its own.

Dunno.. DSL Dialup, a/v, virus, or a hundred other programs may start up a command prompt.

After that, the computer runs extremely slow for about 5 minutes and then seems to return to normal operating speed.

Maybe searching for a non-existent network.. I've seen that one before.

However we can't get email, he uses Outlook Express and when I dbl click, a pop up box comes up stating an error and asks to "Send error report", which I have been doing. Now at one time I dbl clicked the Microsoft Outlook (which he doesn't use) email icon and it now appears on the desktop without a name, just a folder icon with no name under it.

Do these errors/problems indicate anything? Any suggestions as to a quick fix?

The quick fix is to try Thunderbird or another email client. But, if you take the exact error message to the proper newsgroup, they may have an answer. But try here first:

I keep getting an error box saying"The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\AVICAP32.DLL is not a valid Windows image. Please check it against your installation diskette." How can I fix this?

Thanks
Click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW, click OK. If any are damaged or missing files, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards so damaged files will be replaced.

Answered in-line above.
