Getting fullscreen when playing DVD

I just bought a Acer 22W (widescreen) monitor.

I wanted to watch a DVD on it.

When I set either Media Player 11 or Real Player 10 to fullscreen theatre mode, it doesn't really use the full screen area.

There is a dark black frame of unused space. There are also two lighter black bands at the top and bottom of the image.

Is there any way to get it to use the whole screen?

I have an Nvidia NX-6600 card and I'm using the DVI video cable.

My screen resolution is 1680x1050.
