You'll have to use whatever recovery method is in place for your system,
either recovery CD's or a recovery partition. Often times this means a
destructive process, i.e. it wipes the drive and installs an image as
received from the factory. Then programs will need to be reinstalled from
their original media and data restored from a backup.

If you don't know how the recovery process works with your laptop contact
the laptop manufacturer's tech support site for info.

As an aside I think you should always have an XP installation CD rather than
a recovery disk or recovery partition, and this is just one example of why.

Lastly, understand that this is a peer to peer newsgroup. Everyone who
posts in here is a volunteer who does so on their own time to help others.
You need to have patience in waiting for responses - sometimes it can take
24-48 hours before someone who might know the solution sees your post and
responds. No one owes you any particular level or type of support.




I have already suggested you do a system recovery by the means that works for your system. Contact the computer's tech support for help with that if you don't know how it's done.

Or contact the vendor of the program that caused the problem for help. They might be able to point out some registry entries that there program affects which you could repair remotely by slaving the drive in another XP computer and remote editing the registry.

Do a detailed Google search on this issue. Maybe someone has run into it before.

You could try borrowing and doing a repair install with a non branded OEM XP CD inputting the license key that's on the sticker attached to your computer - usually on the bottom. It may not accept your license key however. If it does you won't know for sure if it will fix the problem until it's done and you try it.

Or buy a copy of XP of the same type - Home or Pro, and do a repair install inputting the new license number. Whether that will repair the damage you won't know until it's done. I gave you a link on how to do a repair install.

Last is to buy a copy of XP and do a clean install. Link provided in a previous post.
