Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi R. McCarty

I will attempt to create a bootable pmagic diskette and attempt to recover
from that.

Thanks for the information and time to reply.

Kind regards.

Emergency Rescue Disk - Which one ?, I mean a Windows based or
from other 3rd-Party product. If you created the PQMagic bootable
media disk you should be able to boot to that and from the menu there
is an "Undo" function - which would revert your changes.

Also it's not possible to remap Windows from an originally designated
drive letter to another. There are thousands of Registry keys that are
referenced to in your case D:\Windows. This may explain why your PC
won't boot beyond the initial XP Splash screen. It (XP) is searching for
components from D: which likely no longer exists in the lettering scheme.

Hi Mr McCarty,

What i basically did was Rename D: (which boots the machine and, holds all
the windows files) to C: (where the operating system should have been in
the
first place). Once i rebooted it gets stuck on the windows logo sign and,
i
cant get past that.

Have tried booting from an ERD but unable to do anything. Can u help
further?

Kind Regards.

From your description, it seems like the batch processing of the
Partition Magic operations did not complete or do so successfully.

Using Partition Magic is best done with the "Bootable" media.
The problem with using it while running Windows is that changes
aren't applied until the next boot when the batch file is processed.
If it fails it can leave the machine in an unbootable state and prevent
you from using Partition Magic to correct the problems.

I don't really follow your description of renaming a volume ? Did
you leave both partitions intact or remove one ?

Hi All,

I have just used partition magic to partition some of my drives and i
now
find that i cannot boot up my machine, with an error "Partitionmagic is
unable to read the batch file. Verify that the system32 directory is
not
compressed or corupt."

I renamed the D drive which is what the op system was on to C drive.
Now i
am in this position. I have attempted to recover using recover software
but
to no avail.

Is there anyone who could help me. This is desperate times. Any ideas
thoughts would be greatly welcomed.

Kind regards.
