If the drive controller is not at fault you can try these from the
Recovery Console:

chkdsk /r
fixboot

able to extract a few of the files I needed (but not all of them; for example
I couldn't copy all of my iTunes files & folders (was really slow & just hung
up sometimes); at least not through the LINUX GUI; might try doing that
through a Konsole command tonight (i.e. cp -r & see if that works), but would
like to try & resurrect/restore the hard drive completely & bring WinXP back
to life.

My questions are:

(1) Can I repair/replace the Boot.ini file? If so, how?
(2) Will I be able to boot from a WinXP installation disk? I can't find my
WinXP disk but I'm happy to purchase another copy if that will help. Will
that allow me to fix the Boot.ini file?
(3) Is there another way to boot (floppys?) & possibly replace (or fix) the
Boot.ini file?

Any help would be much appreciated!
