Hi Andrew,2. Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called
Windows has a registry key to prevent 'save changes to the desktop' (= lock
it).
Disable Save Display Settings at Exit
When Windows exits it normally saves the desktop layout, including icon
location, appearance and other parameters. This setting disables any changes
from being saved therefore allowing you to lock down a configured layout.
1. Open your registry and find the key below.
'NoSaveSettings'.
3. Set the value to '1' to enable the restriction.
4. Exit your registry, you may need to restart for the changes to take
effect.
(Default)
REG_SZ
(value not set)
NoSaveSettings
REG_DWORD
0x00000001 (1)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\...
Registry Settings
User Key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
System Key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
Value Name: NoSaveSettings
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)
