Vista RTM and video card driver update

Not sure if I am posting to the correct place. I currently have an ATI
mobility 9200 video card, installation of Vista is OK and windows runs
OK in 1024x768 mode using the default drivers (this resolution is not
the native resolution for my wide screen laptop display however the
higher resolutions are not available). About 15 mins after
installation, windows update detects a newer driver for my card online
and installs it (installed as ATI mobility 9000) , this is good because
it will make my best resolution available, however when the system
restarted although the resolution looks better the screen in flickering
with lines and windows are mirrored.

Note: Windows update downloaded this driver on its own and I gave the
OK when it prompted to be installed.

To recover I had to go to safe mode and do a system recovery.

Has anyone else experienced this with this video card?
