Re: Windows XP Pro Freezes/Lockup

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

thanks for all the replies guys - I am going to try and switch the PCI
Audio to 2/5 tomorrow, and swap out the AGP Card...see what happens, if
no go, we are probably going to junk the computer or swap out the
motherboard...customers decision.

I had a computer that did that. Turned out the mobo was a Soyo (different
model). It was nothing but trouble. When I asked a local computer megastore
about it, they told me they stopped carrying them because they got too many
returns.

I finally fixed the computer by replacing the mobo with a reliable one.

What I gather, SOYO P4X400 - Im pretty sure the BIOS flash code is up
to date, there were only 3 releases, all in the year of 2003. Theres
about 6 PCI slots and an AGP slot. There is no on board video, so there
is a AGP video card and an additional sound card, Although I have
toggled the sound card plugged into the motherboard and off with
installations and reboots. I am about ready to come to the conclusion
of a bad motherboard, just seeing if there are any other options out
there first...

Which motherboard (Vendor/Model) and is the BIOS flash code up to
date ? How are the expansion slots populated ( PCIe, PCI) with add-in
cards ? BIOS settings can also impact performance - especially those
that control any APIC functions. (IRQ range extends to 23)

PC came in, boots up to desktop, and periodically freezes. Could be
within 1 minute of bootup, could be 5 hours. Ive switched the ram into
all 3 slots, switched out power supplys, and switched the processors,
even fan/heatsinks. Ive tried a reinstall of XP - it freezes during
installation, any ideas?
