Yes xp is different in this reguard.
Might do a google search to see if the programs are compatible with xp. If
the program writes directly to hardware it won't run.

In Windows 98SE they're not read only. Is XP different?
The program I'm trying to install in Paint Shop Pro 4.0. It installed on
2KPro and worked. It installs on XP but instead of running I get a box to
send a report. I'll look again after I reinstall. I've already uninstalled
PSP.

I working on a new install of XP Home Edition and when I install new
programs they're not working. I took a look at the folder where they are
installed and it's "read only" and I can change that but when I look
again it's still "read only."
What am I doing wrong?
