She's got Norton installed, so will need to check the firewall settings,
Already had an account on the 2k box for her with the same password.
Thanks

Hi
I've set up a shared pc running windows 2000 with a number of shared
folders on it, I can connect to it from my own laptop no problem but
when I try from girlfriends laptop I cannot even get to see the
computers on the workgroup or any of the shares.
When I go in through my laptop to see who's on the workgroup I can see
all 3 pc's.
Anyone got any ideas how to fix this or have I over looked something?
1. Check for firewalls on your girlfriend's laptop. It sounds like there
is one that is misconfigured. Assuming that the laptop has XP, run the
Network Setup Wizard on her laptop, making sure to enable File &
Printer Sharing, and reboot. The only "gotcha" is that this will turn
on the XPSP2 Windows Firewall. If she isn't running a third-party
firewall or has an antivirus with "Internet Worm Protection" (like
Norton 2005/06) which acts as a firewall, then you're fine. If she has
third-party firewall software, configure it to allow the Local Area
Network traffic as trusted. I usually do this with my firewalls with an
IP range. Ex. would be 192.168.1.0-192.168.1.254. Obviously you would
substitute your correct subnet.
2. Since you want her to connect to a Win2k box, make a user account and
password on Win2k that matches her user account and password on the
laptop. If she doesn't have a password on her account, create one for
her and then you can set XP to log in automatically for her
convenience. See this link for how:
