Re: Explorer comes up slow

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Thank you Paul. We sure can try that. However, the new IT dept is in the
process of settling down and won't get to fix my problem for a while. I need
to get some of my work done on this machine.

Do you have any other suggestions.

Thanks,
Ron.

I'd have to say if only two PCs out of hundreds have the problem then maybe
a reformat would be the best solution.. your problems to me suggest a DNS
issue but with only two PCs showing problems... backup up your data and
format your PC. i think it would be a waste of money and time trying to find
why it happened!

Hi all:

I am using XP professional (SP2) on IBM ThinkPad T42 Laptop.

Recently, we moved to a new company and the old company's IT dept went
through some cleanup and rekeying the MS office apps for the new comany on
our laptops. There were hundreds going through this process. However, only
2
of us are seeing this issue on our machines.
-------------------------------------
I am frustrated by this problem:
-------------------------------------
-Explorer comes up slowly when conected to network (it comes up fast when
the computer is not connected to the network). It takes 40-60 secs to come
up, some times more.
- The same is true about all other network related applications (outlook,
remote desktop, etc.).
- Staring one of this applications while connected to the network prevents
me to do anything else on the laptop (the machine is forzen while the app
is
tring to come up). After the app comes up, there are periodic slow downs.

As I mentioned before, it only happens when the laptop is connected to a
network (whether at work or at home).

I have no idea how this has happened. It was working well some time last
week and now it is not.
-----------------------------------------
These are the things I have done so far as counter measures after
detecting
the problem:
------------------------------------------
- Removed all items in the network places.
- Removed all the old printers.
- Deleted the cookies.
- Deleted all the *.tmp files on the HD.
- Cleaned up the Temp Internet folder and the temp folder.
- Ran spybot and adware.
- Ran Symentic antivirus.
- Emptied the recyle bin.

So far, nothing has worked. My theory is that something is timming out
when
my computer is connected to the network. That may be why these network
applications are slow in comming up.

Any ideas?!!

Many thanks.
