For now? If I were the one "telling you want to do" I'd tell you: Just
boot into the OS via CD.
Otherwise - really - Use Virtual PC 2007 beta and use that. That would
be wonderful too 'cause then you will need to poke, learn to run as
root so that you can make sound work, etc. :)
I have no doubts about your capacity - and I'm sure you'll do fine.
BUT doing it in a situation where you're able to get access to
newgroups or forums will make it easier for you. I really used to sit
people down, take away their Windows, and then leave them like that
and if they really wanted they'd read the book, configure the modem or
network, and they'd be able to get their email. Today I don't resort
to such tactics having found that it is really better to merge slowly.
*grins* Anyhow - enjoy your trek to Linuxland. I believe there is a
place for Linux, Mac, and Windows. Then again, I'm probably insane or
something.

program.

Linux is fairly easy these days) a build for your chosen OS and, with
Ubuntu, you'd want .deb packages.
XP does? Can someone with 98 or XP read a .deb package if I were to
email it to them?
within a Debian/Ubuntu system. When you use Synaptic through the GUI or
apt-get through the CLI, you're actually downloading .deb files from the
Ubuntu repositories. These package files contain compiled
applications/libraries along with built-in instructions telling the system
where to install the files, how to add an application to the menu system
and where to put any documentation files that might be included. Although
you can pickup .deb files from all sorts of places, it's always best to get
them from the Ubuntu repositories using the tools outlined above.
Cheers.
I meant what type of file will the faxes I receive be in? I installed Ubuntu just now and I have downloaded all the updates which are currently installing.
When I installed it, I couldn't understand how to do the partitioning so I just went for the default, let Ubuntu do it configuration. Can I add a partition later?
Thanks again,

.
One caveat...I have a dedicated fax phone line and my Internet connection is cable.
Programs that use (such as internet connection) phones seem to sometimes
be a pain to configure. It takes a little bit of work and sometimes a lot
of research but I'm sure you'll get it.
