It does re-install XP but preserves all you 3rd-Party applications
and your settings and personal data. You'd loose approximately
60+ Windows Updates which would have to be re-applied. The
repair installation simply resets XP back to it's installed state. If
your XP CD-ROM is a Gold or Service Pack 1 level you'll need
to reapply Service Pack 2 before using Microsoft Update. I've
forgotten what your original issues are - but I would import all
the Registry Cleaner backups and that alone might help repair a
few of the issues. I'd still be inclined to do some kind of Image on
the PC just as a fall back protection. Can't really think of other
suggestions or ideas.

To do a repair install what will I have to do, does it involve
re-installing
XP?
I feel like I haven't received enough help to actually attempt to fix the
registry. I've never went into the registry and deleted keys or anything,
but
I have tried registry cleaners and it hasn't helped me. My ideas are
obviously not the right way to go about this, so I am trying to find a way
to
go about this correctly without re-installaton. I haven't been given
really
any suggestions at all besides reinstallation, which is of no use to me. I
don't want to give up fixing the registry, without ever trying properly to
fix it. I want to be able to try at least 1 or 2 things to see if they
will
work, before giving up on it. And I haven't been told anything that I can
try.

Why not consider a "Repair" install ? Manual Registry changes are
tedious, time consuming and prone to errors. As I've followed this
thread I've wondered why you've spent so much time trying to fix
these issues manually. Whatever you eventually do, I hope you have
some type of imaging capability and have made a verified image of
the current PC state. Sometimes the more you work on a PC the
worse it becomes. There is a point where further effort to repair it
can't be justified and you just backup personal data and start over.

yes, I'm aware that I have a lot of Registry issues. However, I stated
that
as of right now, reinstalling XP is not an option. That is why, I'm
looking
for other ways to solve my problem. If there is no way to fix my
situation,
then I want to be told that, instead of being told repeatedly to
reinstall
XP
when I've said that I can't right now.

You know you have lots of issues with Registry so as previously
recommended, reinstall XP

I'm having errors with my registry keys.
1. I go to start, run, and type in regedit.
2. In HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, I can't open .3g2. I get an error that says
Cannot open .3g2: Error while opening key. In HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
there
is WELL OVER 50 keys that have the same error in just
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. The key errors are only happening in
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
3. I think that my registry key errors are also preventing me from
downloading and installing common programs such as Adobe Flash
Player, Adobe Reader,Adobe Photoshop, my calculator and Microsoft
Paint are missing, as well as my Microsoft Board Computer games that
are automatically there in games (Backgammon,Checkers, etc..) and on
one computer setting the desktop screen is white and can't be
changed. Of course, I'm just assuming and I could be wrong.
4. What can I do to solve my registry key errors situation?
Re-installation of Windows XP is just not an option right now. Also,
a system restore seems to be out of the question, unless you can
tell
me how to get a date further back, since I don't have any restore
options.
If more information is needed, I will be more than gladly provide
it.
Thanks
