I'm attempting to hook a 'new' computer (from my father in law's collection of used computers) up to my DSL service - and had to go buy an Ethernet card. I followed all instructions and physically got it into the machine. When it came to setting up the driver/etc. the instructions tell me to go to the control panel, system, hardward, device manager. Okay so far. Then it tells me to open up the 'Network Adapter' area where I should find this new card's info. The problem is that there's no listing for 'Network Adapters' under the device manager. It goes from 'Modem' to 'Monitor' then onto 'Other'...nothing under 'N'. This kind of puts the whammy on progress. Where can I find the 'Network Adapters'???? Anybody have any ideas?

Look for the device under Other, or Unknown device. Look for anything with a "?" or an "!". If located, try the Properties of the Device, Update the driver and browse to the CD that came with the NIC.
If the "!" is for the sound card or other device that should have been there all along, there's probably a conflict between the two devices.
