I had windows 2000 on my computer and upgraded to XP Pro. I made a
computeraccount with a password etc but noticed that when I turn on the
andit
would go straight to the desktop without asking for the password. Onadvice
of a friend I went into My computer/manage etc and deleted the account
turning onput another with new password etc. Now I have a new problem. On
Xpthe computer, the screen sits on one which is blue and has the Windows
blacklogo and says that Windows is signing on. It just sits there for 15MINUTES
until the screen saver comes on with the floating Win XP logo on a
thebackground. It does this EVERYTIME I turn it on!! Then once I touch
belowmouse
I get a logon message which is on top of a background which says (the
background) "Log On To Windows and has the User name ---Owner--- and
thethat Password --............-" The actual Log on Message which is over
andabove says "The system could not log you on. Make sure your Username
passwordsdomain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in
desktopmust
be typed using the correct case." Below this is the word OK which when"Owner"
clicked brings up the password sign in screen. I click on my username
and it still does not ask for a password but goes straight to the
theafter "loading personal settings"
How can I get this to stop? I cannot wait 15 minutes everytime I turn
passwordcomputer on. Moreover, access is still not password protected. I evenchecked
the user profile and it has the name as "Owner" and says it is
MOSTYour response did solve a portion of my problem - in fact it got rid ofprotected.
I need help!!
Thanks
- Click Start / Run / control userpasswords {OK}
- Click the account you wish to use for logging on automatically.
- Click OK
- Think about which friends you wish to consult on password issues.
There are several ways to set a password. Here is a quick one
that lets you see the password as you type it.
- Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}
- Type this command:
net user Sata November6 {Enter}
(where "Sata" is the account name and "November6" is the password)
Thanks Pegasus!
of it. I used the "control userpasswords" option and now when I do turn onpassword
the computer I find I no longer have to wait the 15 minutes to get a
functional screen. HOWEVER, despite my having set a password (as an
administrator), when the computer is turned on it goes straight from the
"Windows is starting up...." screen to the "Loading your personal
settings...." then my desktop comes up. In essence, no request for a
is made!! So anyone who turns on the computer can go straight to mydesktop.
How can I prevent this??on
I also tried your suggestion re setting the password so you can see it as
you type it. However since no request was made for the password on turning
the computer, I did not get to 'see the password as I typed it'
Thanks again and in advance.
I made a mistake: The correct command is
Click Start / Run / control userpasswords2 {OK}, not
Click Start / Run / control userpasswords {OK}
About setting the password: Your reply makes no sense. If you
follow my instructions then you get a black screen where you
can see every character you type. Take off your sunglasses!
- Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}
- Type this command:
net user Sata November6 {Enter}
(where "Sata" is the account name and "November6" is the password)
.
