Hi,
Option #1- All fans are running.
Option #2- Memory sticks are seated, look fine and pass hardware checks
All else in case seems fine.
Option #3-Dell is not still under warranty, even so, as stated I did call
the Dell Dude.
Option #4- Dell is the one who said give up on it and reinstall...
Looking for more input...
Thanks

This is what <Franco> shared with us today ...
Hi,
Dell Dimension 8400
Pentium(R) 4 cpu 3.60Hgz
3.59 GHz, 1.00 GB RAM
80 GB harddrive
Windows XP Pro
V. 2002
SP 2
Problem: All was well, one night while using XNews ( a newsgroups reader)
I
got a memory
error. Has happened in the past if machine is on for days at a time, I
reboot as I normally would,
but now machine is VERY slow, as if lacking heavily in memory, bleeding
screens, locking up, etc
etc.
What has been tried:
Updated Virus check = OK
Spybot = OK
BHO Cop = OK
Task Manager shows nothing running out of the ordinary
CPU is never topped at 100%, not even 20%, even during lock ups
Called Dell, they did all the hardware mem checks, tried turning off just
about
everything in my start-ups with msconfig, tried all sorts of checks in
safemode,
pulled all my USB devices. He said drive was too full, only 4% free. OK,
sounds possible.
Cleared 50% of drive, defragged until all files but the outlook.pst file
were good.
Slightly better to the point I can get here and write this, but still very
very very slow.
Noticed my outlook had the biggest issues, would tottally lock machine
while
trying to sync folders.
Created new profile. No I can download emails, but still, computer is
hurting bad. Slow and still locks
up too often.
No idea what to try next before I do a full reinstall. Would really like
to
avoid that.
Help!!
Not out of options....
Option #1- Make sure each of the fans are working while the computer
is on and running. (open case then boot up and inspect)
Option #2- Make sure the memory sticks are seated tightly and inspect
all other cables and connectections are tight and not obstructing air
flow. Especially the CPU fan and heat sink.
Option #3-Sounds like that Dell should still be under warranty. If all
else fails contact Dells Tech Support. Dude....You got a Dell !!
Option #4- Stop manipulating the system with shotgun trouble-shooting.
Get more input or call Dell before you completely dismember that poor
computer.
Respectfully,
Trev
.
