Just so I am quite clear on what you are doing -
1. You are just trying to burn some data files to cd-r so you can
transfer the files to another computer.
2. You are using XP's built-in burning capability and not a third-party
burning program.
If this is correct, then first make sure the files are not in use. This
means that you don't have a file open in Word or some other program so
close all programs that might be using the files. If you had some
multimedia files running and then you closed them and are trying to
burn those files, reboot the machine first.
1. Put a blank cd-r in your burner.
2. Open the cd-r window, either from My Computer or from the autoplay
dialog box option that may appear.
3. Open the folder containing the files you wish to burn. Usually this
will be My Documents.
4. Select the files you wish to burn.
5. Left-click on the selected files and drag to the open cd-r window.
6. Burn the files.
If you follow this procedure exactly and have a problem, post back with
the confirmation of my first two questions and the exact text of any
error messages. Also include the name and location of at least one of
the files you are trying to burn as a sample.
