Try Start, All Programmes, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to
Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Delete all
but the most recent Restore Point ( Start, Programs, Accessories, System
Tools, Disk Cleanup, More options). Run Disk Defragmenter in Safe Mode.

Hope this helps.

Just migrated all my stuff to a new hard drive and now my system is slower
than slow. It takes Windows XP (professional) 10-15 minutes just to get to
the screen with the different users' names on it, and another 5-10 minutes
to
load a profile. Once I get that far, just moving the mouse can freeze it
for
3-5 minutes. The computer runs fine through the whole BIOS stuff -- it's
not
until Windows starts that it slows down.
Perhaps related is a problem that I had with the installation of WinXP on
my
old hard drive has migrated to the new drive: I get a notification that
this
version of Windows is no longer current, that it needs SP2, but when I go
to
add it, the Microsoft site tells me it's already installed.
I have already re-run the Windows installation and that did nothing to
change or improve the situation.
