Investigating slowness

I am investigating why WinXP is running slowly when I double click on a folder. It says in the status bar that it is "searching for items" and it sometimes takes up to 5 seconds to show a folder that maybe has 5 files in it.

So I cranked up FileMon and I am getting the following entries (when I try and open a folder). Does anyone know what it means?
