After I changed the username from HP_Administrator to my own
personalized administrator username, I see that change at the login
screen. However, in the Documents and Settings directory there is no
folder for my new username, but instead HP_Administrator. There are a
few odd problems that this discrepancy can cause. How can I fix the OS
so that only my revised username appears in the registry, and thus
everywhere?
As you have discovered, you cannot change a user account simply by
renaming it. Instead, make a new user account for yourself and copy
over the HP_Administrator account data and settings. You will need to
log into the new user account once before you can copy anything to it.
