You need to slipstream your original CD with the SP2 download and burn a new
CD which will then be the XP with SP2 CD - then you can do a repair install.
A Google search on slipstream will provide the necessary info.

Seems to me like I installed this system from that DVD.
Is this an artifact of Windows Updates being turned on?
No big thing. I have a stack of CDs that I burned an image to some time
ago... and I think it's on me to have an external drive full of recent
images -
which I'll do from now on with this PC.
But out of curiosity..... did I burn myself by having Windows Update
turned on?
