Re: Missing pdh.dll XP Professional SP 2

Also this command just extracts the SP2 files to a folder you specify. It doesn't reinstall the service pack.

WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe -x

The problem with troubleshooting is that trouble shoots back.

It may well be worth recalling that "Jon" <Email_Address@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> had already stated in news:Okyl$mI7GHA.4568@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Once you've downloaded the full package, you open up a command prompt in the folder containing the file (post if you need help with that) and run this command (copy and paste the following)

WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe -x

You get prompted for a folder to save the files.

Then search for the file you want, except it will be called pdh.dl_ (ie with an underscore at the end of it, instead of the final l). You have to 'expand' this file, since it is in compressed form.

To that you run this command from a command prompt, in the folder containing the pdh.dl_ file.

expand pdh.dl_ pdh.dll

Then copy the file to the relevant directories. I have a copy in

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\pdh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\pdh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pdh.dll

Thanks for your reply. I'm just downloading it now. How do you extract an
individual file? I'm a little concerned about running this because I've had
loads of cumulative updates since that service pack was installed.

Thanks

If you've got a copy of the full SP2 service pack, then you can extract the
file from it

WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe -x
