OK...SOLVED...if anyone is interested. Deleted/uninstalled all
upgraded video drivers/software and re-installed original nVidia CD
drivers that came with the motherboard. Not sure what version i'm at,
but it is working. Despite the fact that nVidia says the 'new'
driver/software package is compatible with the onboard graphics
package, it obviously is not. Anyway, maybe this info is a help to
anybody reading this. Dave

If it is indeed a system problem, you should see if there are any errors
listed in Event Viewer.
Go to Start -> Run type in eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Look through the 3 entries in it and look for errors listed and for the
errors listed note the Event # and post them back here. (although if you
want to research the errors also you can do this at www.eventid.net)

Ok...I downloaded a program called Stellarium v0.8.2
(http://www.stellarium.net) and it doesn't seem to work on my system.
Now,
initially one would guess it is a application problem, but i don't
think so.
It works just fine on my other windows machines. Here's the info on
hardware
and software...I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction
to
solve this issue, if it is in fact a system issue.

NOTES: I do not get 'splash screen' (moon over forested hills) on
start up
but I do get loading bar. I do not get navigation and configuration
buttons
at the bottom of the screen, but do get little squares where the
buttons
should be, nor do i get any text. I do not get any configuration
screens or
background pictures.

but it does work.
Any ideas why it doesn't work on my 'good' computer......any
suggestions would
