Re: Help requested with newsgroups

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

I set the maximum number for downloading (1,000). However, I have never
synchronized. It has never been clear to me what that would do. The help
files seem to refer to synchronization for offline reading. Can you clarify
what it does? Would that affect the files I have checked for follow-up?

Thanks,
MaryL

Hi,

Likely you are not downloading enough headers. Under tools/options/read
tab, uncheck the line to download xx headers (where xx is defaulted to
300, but can be changed). Then synchronize the group (it may take some
time initially).

I don't know if this is the correct newsgroup for this question. If not,
I would appreciate it if you can direct me to the correct one.

I use OE to read newsgroups (Win XP-Home Edition). My server is
news.cox-internet.com. A frequent problem I have is that if someone
inadvertently uses the same title for a thread as one that has been used
in the past, that thread will not show up on the newsgroup -- my reader
seems to act as if it is an old, expired thread, but I can see the
message if I use google. In fact, it happened to one of my own messages,
which is what "inspired" this question. I used Ping: Name of Person, but
that person had been pinged some time ago. The result was that my own
message did not appear on my reader, and I had to go through google to
look for a response.

Is there any way around this? Have I set something incorrectly?

Thanks,
MaryL
