Have you tried enabling the Indexing service - cisvc.exe. Should speed up
file access on the network

Thanks. I did exactly as you said but that doesn't make a difference. Windows Explorer is stillTry this:
sloooooowwwww..... when accesing network folder which contains thousands of files and subfolders.
Any other tricks?

Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace

and delete the key.
Before you delete it you might want to export (save) the key... just in case.

WinXP Pro SP2 (+ latest patches) on a switched network (10/100Mbps) with WinServer 2003, DNS and
WINS enabled.
Everytime users access a network folder (server shared folder or W2k Pro shared folder), it
takes 20 seconds or longer to display the content. The folder in question contains 2000 and more
files. Accessing the same folder with Windows 95, 98SE only takes 3 second (or less) before the
content is displayed on the monitor.
Why is WinXP Windows Explorer slower than older version of Windows? It happens on all WinXP
machines but not Win9x. Is there any trick to speed it up?
Thanks much.
Go to Start - Run and type in "msconfig" without the quotes.
Then go to the services tab and uncheck, Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
Restart your computer and check the Windows Explorer again.
If this works go to the Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services and change WIA to manual
start.
WIA is known to slow down Windows Explorer openings
Thanks but that doesn't help either :-( I notice that browsing Windows
Server 2003 shared folder from a remote workstation (with XP Pro) isn't
as slow as browsing Win2000 Pro shared folder. However, Win9x displays
shared folder content so much quicker than XP. Perhaps this is related
to the OS architecture. Something that we just have to live with if we
want to use XP.
