Re: Utility Program

Good Morning Guys,
Well I am still in the "information mode", and thank you for your kind
words, as a matter of fact it is I that thinks you guys are "AWESOME"!! And
yes before I attempt any "mission" I try to gather as much info as possible
and make every effort to be methodical.

Now if I have not worn your patience thin I have a couple more questions and
then upon your replies, it's gonna be off to the races removing malware.

Several years ago my daughter's computer acquired a milicious worm, trojan,
whatever, it had a name and I was able to acquire a removal tool from McAfee
to remove it, but it required removal performed from "Safe Mode" also. And as
I recall, the CD Rom would not operate from the "Safe Mode". Now as I said it
was some time ago and it was on an old HP R500 computer with Win 95. So my
first question is do you think the CD Rom in this much newer Emachines T1100
will work in "Safe Mode"?? And is there a "name" for the infestation?
(Actually that's two questions in one...I apologize.)

And secondly in the deep dark recesses of my mind it seems that I recall an
MS Automatic Update that installed a "Malware Removal Tool" but I can't find
it in my "add / remove programs" am I wrong here???

Oh, incidently, I run the "Corporate Edition of Symantic Client" (free to me
from my old employer) and It scans every week. Also I run "Adaware SE" every
week and delete all tracking and "MSL's"(?) each week and I keep both updated
weekly, so I'm really mistified how this thing got "Infested".

Again thanks to you "Heros".

To Malke, Rock, and Will,
I can't tell you how much I appreciate the unselfish sharing of your great
storehouse of knowledge for us virtual novices in this computer game in
these
newsgroups..

I have downloaded and printed the Elephantboy Computer information and
will
be studying it in the a.m. before I attempt to remove whatever malware
there
is in this computer. I am a mechanical engineer by degree, but have just
been
playing with computer repair (my own and family's) for the past five
years. I
just went to the library and started reading on computer repair and jumped
right in. I must say that fortunately I have had some success, but I am
also
aware that I in NO-WAY have your knowledge.
Hence my coming here for advice.
As stated above, I'm going to jump into this mission in the a.m. after
carefully studying the repair procedures and will repost here on my
success
or lack thereof.
But in all honesty, I think I can "gitter done" with the help ya'll have
given me.
Many thanks again.

You're welcome Adrian, and thanks for the kind words. We all learned by
doing, eh? Good luck.
