The laptop is a Dell Latitude C610 with an Intel(r) 82801 CA/CAM AC'97
Audio
Controller. When I'm in the Dell setup screen the audio device is labeled
as
a 'Crystal 4205'.
Had no sound (only the loud error beep), went into "Sound and Audio
Devices"
under Control panel. It said that the device cannot start [code 10]. Did
both troubleshoot and uninstall/reinstall and it didn't help.
I'm currently at www.dell.com and went to Help/support there. Under
'Drivers and Downloads' I've selected the computer type and model. The
driver comes up as a Crystal CS4205 WDM Driver.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R48991&SystemID=LAT_PNT_P3C_C610&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=1093&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=3&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=57707
Underneath the download option there's a link to Other Versions which,
when
I click it, leads me to previous versions.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/previousversions.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&vercnt=3&osl=en&SystemID=LAT_PNT_P3C_C610&deviceid=1093&libid=3&os=WW1&releasetype=DRVR&typecnt=1
I don't know if I should download the driver, or if I'm in the right place
at all. I just don't want to mess up the computer even more by installing
something it either doesn't need or already has.
Any help is much appreciated.
Normally if you don't install the Crystal drivers your notebook should work
with the Intel audio drivers. They are installed by default when you install
the OS.
There should be no harm in downloading and installing the Crystal drivers
from Dell as long as they are the right ones for your system.
