Re: SOS - Disks have disappeared after "Delayed Write Error". Need

You need to follow Rock's advice and start backing up now. There is a strong
possibility something is going wrong with one or both of your hard drives.
Until you have any important data backed up do not do any more
troubleshooting.

Hi Rock/DL,

The latest update is that I can see the disks back now on my
computer. I have a tendency to procrastinate and hence have bene
delaying my purchase of a DVD player. I will surely get it sooner
than later.

DL, can you be specific about where I should be downloading the disk
checking utility from? I could not gather the same from your reply.

Cheers,

Hi Folks. Here's the ocnfig of my machine before I start my
question:

Intel Pentium 3GHz HT
Windows XP Professional
250 GB cumulative space (I have got 2 separate physical internal
drives) 1GB RAM

The problem:
I was receiving a "Delayed Write Error" over the past few days and
I took the necessary precautions outlined under Article ID 330174.
Basically I turned off the "Enabled Cache..." option under hardware
policies and changed
the registry settings to whatever was specified in that article.
Everything
was going smoothly till last night when I started receiving the
error again
so I shut down the machine.

Today morning when I switched my machine on, I found that 3
partitions from
one of my HDs have disappeared. THAT HD I presume is a SATA drive,
while the
other intact one is an IDE (pardon my knowledge about hardwares if
I am wrong). I downloaded a program called "diskcheckup" and
luckily it identified
both the drives. I sincererly hope that I have not lost my disks
and the data
within it.

Please help me with some solutions, guys. I want to do this on my
own so you
will need to be simple in your explanations.

Hopefully when you noticed the problem originally and you took "the
necessary precautions" that also involved making a full and complete
backup of important data.
