Hi,forced
I'm running Windows XP Home edition. I tried to upgrade to SP2, the
installation failed halfway, my "local policy" was corrupted and I was
to backup my data, reformat the disk and install windows from scratch.try
I backed up my files on to an external hard drive. I've done the reformat
and have re-installed windows. Now when I plug the external drive in and
to access my backup folder I get:do
"E:\Folder is not accessible. Access is denied"
If I try the external drive from a second PC I get the same error. So how
I get my data back?
Thanks,
Scott.
You may have to seize ownership of this folder. Click Start / Help /
Search tab, then type "Owner" if unsure how to do this.
I note from your post that you seem to do things back to
front: You backed up your data AFTER the installation of
SP2 had failed. Sooner or later you will suffer a major
disaster with this approach. The standard method is to back
up your important files regularly, e.g. weekly, to an independent
medium. A 2.5" disk in an external USB enclosure is a low-cost
but very effective backup medium.
