First, sorry if this is an old issue.
I'm working on a machine that is extremely slow. The only error message in
event viewer is as follows:
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging
operation
This error repeats numerous times.
I've set the page file to -0- rebooted, double check that pagefile.sys is
gone. Reset page file to let Windows determine, re-boot, new page file was
created. NO HELP, same prob.
If I boot in safe mode machine appears to hang on AqpCPQ.sys, I've attempted
to see what loads next as I heard that that may be the actual file Windows
may be hanging on. That didn't work. After a very long wait, screen goes
blank and Safe mode starts. Could not see any more drivers loading.
As I write this I'm re-installing SP2 its been running for 6 hours and is
maybe 1/2 done.
Numerous Google searches have helped little, not to say I haven't missed
something.
Short of a complete format and reinstall can anyone help with this?
Thanks Much!!

DUUUDE, you got an issue with your hard disk. Get another one. Nuking
the OS isn't going to help this one. However, you might want to verify
that jumper settings/cables are correct before tossing it :)
To test the disk, get the tool from the maker of the hard drive.
Another great tool I've used is MHDD, it makes a map of your drive
based on seek times. 1 or 2 Warnings won't be an issue, but LOTS of
warnings, and even a single error, will be.

While you're testing things, test the RAM with memtest86+ from
www.memtest.org
