Thanks Philo
But the drive its a brand new WD "Raptor" (10krpm). It is noisy
though !
Being brand new is no guarantee that it isn't failing. Almost any hardware
or electronic device is most likely to fail either when it's new or when
it's very old.
I can't be sure from your description, but it sounds to me like Philo is
right and your drive is failing.
If you don't want to replace it, fine, but at least make sure you always
have an up-to-date external backup of anything on it you can't afford to
lose. And don't be surprised if you need to recover from it soon.

Often, when trying to boot windows, there is an audible "click"
from the computer and the boot hard disk seems to power off.
I have tried increasing the boot time-out to no evail.
What is frustrating is that it happens sparodically. Once Windows
eventually boots the HD works fine.
Any ideas?
back up your data at once
and replace the drive!!!!
