Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, I'm still a computer rookie. Is there
any way you could spell it out step by step for me? Or even better, get
online with me soon and talk me through it? I'd really appreciate it,
Joe.
Thanks,
Toni

I can open them just fine with Picture Viewer, but I can't get aPicture Viewer can apparently see the actual filetype and display the
preview to show up in My Pictures and I can't use them as a background.

Which program u used to open the files ??

No, the file sizes seem to be OK but I noticed that they are all
"DAT" files. What does this mean?
files correctly. But the .dat extension is confusing to other
utilities. You might look at the properties of a .dat file and maybe
figure out its actual type. Change the extension accordingly; if it's
actually a .jpg, then rename the file changing the extension to .jpg
e.g.
You can rename all files using CMD. Type the following command after
changing over to the proper folder:
REN *.DAT *.JPG
If a file is actually a .gif or other filetype, that won't help for that
file.
Click Start, Run, type CMD, click OK
You should open to this, or a similar folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>
Type CD MY DOCUMENTS
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents>
Type CD MY PICTURES
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents>My Pictures
Type REN *.DAT *.JPG
That will make all .dat files in the "My Pictures" folder .jpg files. That
may or may not be what you need.
To look at a file's properties, right-click it, click Properties. There
may be some hint of what extension they actually need.
