Password disable

can anyone help me... i have been given a desktop pc from work and it needs
formating. the problem i have is that i can not get onto the pc to do
anything. it requires a password to get onto windows and even when i try to
boot from disc it still asks for the password. i have asked for the login and
password nobody knows what it is .The person who previously used the pc was
sacked from my company and before he left he had changed the logon and
password and he will not tell anyone what it is....please help
