didnt work also.
However, I manage to find the culprit from the processexplorer by
terminating the process one by one. it was the netsvc.exe. (something like
that). My question now is how do I remove this from the startup? it doesnt
show in the msconfig. any advise?

ProcessExplorer found nothing?
Start -> Run
msconfig
Tab 'Services'
check 'Hide All Microsoft Services'
Disable all remaining, reboot and check if the problem is gone now.
Then enable them one by one (reboot eacht time) until the problem
is back again. The you have the culprit....

everytime I try to remove the drive safely from the task bar, it always saysTo discover who has an open handle to the drive get Sysinternals
"The device 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the
device again later"
However, no applications, files etc are using the drive. I also tried
closing all open windows.
ProcessExplorer:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html
Start the ProcessExplorer. Go to 'Find'->'Find Handle' and enter
the root path (like U:\) of your drive. Click 'Search'.
Then it lists all processes that hold open handles to your drive.
But it happens that the ProcessExplorer cannot find open handles
because they are held by a process that is deeper in the system
than the ProcessExplorer can look. Typical these are anti virus and
anti spyware software.
