Whenever I try to download a file to my conputer, the download begins and
then after about 30 seconds, the computer shuts down (switches off) it is
a
Toshiba Satelite and this happens in both explorer and mozilla. I can read
emails etc but no downloading a file to disk. I have SP2 installed.
any ideas?

Try a System Restore to a point before this started happening.
