The ( Portable Media ) draws a large amount of current from
the USB controller. Normally, XP can detect and report this
condition but not always. A USB Root Hub can only supply
a maximum of 500 mA total to all connected peripherals.
Is the connection to a PC socket or into an expansion Hub ?
How many other USB peripherals do you have connected to
the computer ?
